Kimio was born and raised in Japan. In 2005, Kimio studied with iLEAP while working at the Asian Rural Institute (ARI) as a Graduate Assistant. As one of the first Taking the LEAP participants, Kimio’s experience helped to shape the current structure of the TTL program and his future direction.
For his LEAP, Kimio designed and led a 10 day study tour to the Philippines for a small group of Japanese college students. They visited many locations, including sustainable farms, greenbelts, waste disposal areas, and community development organizations. The emphasis of the study tour was on building relationships among program participants and people in the Philippines and realizing the effects of development policy and globalization on the countryside.
